20th Duel [Audio]

[Despite having been torn from his home and losing one of his friends twice as well as his dog, Hawke is happy and there's one major thing contributing to that happiness: Vie. Hawke is ready to spend the rest of his life with her, but there's a problem. There's always a problem. Hawke knows there's a way out, or at least a possible way out, and he can't rightly sit on his butt when he knows he can do something to get his friends home.

Why does being the hero always have to be such a pain in the ass?]

It's time we take a look at that tower.

The flowers can go a bit without you caring for them Merrill.

[He's trying to get you home stop making this more difficult.]

But I don't know how long we'll be gone. I don't want them to die.

[Sigh.]

Go ahead and water the flowers Merrill.

[Aaaaand a moment later knock knock.]

[The door swings open to reveal Hawke in his armor.]

The flowers await your green thumb.

[Merrill slips by Hawke and into his room with a glass of water. She touches the leaves gingerly before pouring the water evenly over the soil.]

There now. That should do it.

[Now! On to business.]

Where are we going, exactly?

[Hawke steps out of the way to give Merrill pletny of room.]

Thank the Maker that the plants will be okay.

[The most important business!]

To a tower, and if we're lucky, home.

[Or at least they will.]

I'm sure he'd appreciate it if I offered to water his flowers.

[She's teasing of course.]

All right. You know I'll follow you, lethallin. A tower sounds exciting anyway.

If he had flowers the Chantry would be too busy clambering over them for you to get near them.

[He smirks.]

It's been too long since we've gone somewhere I shouldn't.

I just hope I go to the right Kirkwall. I don't know what I'd do if I met another me.

Well I wouldn't worry about that. The two of you would get along quite happily I think.

[Now Anders and Fenris on the other hand might explode.]

Do you really think so? I doubt Anders and Fenris would agree. They'd probably just tell me I'm an abomination.

[Of course Fenris calls all of them an abomination. He would have probably called Bethany an abomination if not for Hawke being right there.]

[She giggles.]

Well, if you're ready to go, then so am I.

Let me collect a few things. [Like lyrium and bandages.] I'll meet you at your room?

[He'll just be gathering his grenades and potions.]

[Not five minutes later... knock knock, Hawke.]

[And the door opens with Hawke standing there in full armor. If Anders is really paying attention he might notice some reluctance from his friend underneath that smile.]

It's been far too since we've all done something stupid.

[He blinks, looking... slightly taken aback.]

Something stupid as in... what, exactly?

Stupid as in exploring a mysterious tower filled with who knows what. It'll be just like home.

[And leaving the love of his life behind. That's pretty stupid too.]

Well, yes, but that's rather normal for us...

[He gives him another look.]

Something's bothering you.

Well this does involve leaving my fiancee behind and never knowing when I'll see her again.

[He's still smiling but it's clearly fake.]

[Watch him connect the chain of logic. And watch his face go a little pale.]

... I... Were you intent on leaving... immediately?

Possibly...maybe..I don't know...when do I ever know what I', doing?

[When does he actually ever have a real plan?]

If there's a way to send you all home I can't imagine why we'd stay.

More often than you seem to think.

[He pauses, not... sure he wants to explain. Even to Hawke.]

If we're leaving... I need to leave a message behind.

Oh please, give me any reason to stay here a bit longer and I'll take it.

[Seriously Anders, any reason. Need to wash your laundry? Do you have the sniffles? Is there a crazed rat gnawing its way through you underclothes?]

Hawke, if you don't... want to do this...

[He feels like a giant tool saying that.]

If always did what I wanted I would have killed Petrice long before the qunari did.

... Then I suggest you leave her a message, as well.

She's coming with us. To the tower.

[If she was coming with them to Kirkwall Hawke could care less about leaving this place.]

There are things she needs to do too.

... Oh. In that case.

[He looks back the way he came.]

Five minutes. Then I'll return.

Five minutes eh? Are you sure you'll be done that soon?

[Hawke smirks as he's pretty sure he knows who Anders is running off to.]

... I'm certain I can write a message in that time.

[Oh let him amuse himself Anders.]

I'll see you when you're ready.

[Vie can't relax. Not now, not when this is actually looking like it's going to happen. So she's leaning against the wall of his room, eyes fixed on something out the window, just trying to get her thoughts in order.]

[Hawke sorts through his gear, trying his hardest not to think about this but he can't. There's got to be something he can do. Perhaps he can just send the others back while he stays. After all what if others arrive and he's not there to show them the way back? A weak excuse but it's all he needs to convince himself.

He finally looks to her and offers her a smile.]

I still need to get you a ring.

[She smiles and looks to him, but it doesn't quite meet her eyes.]

We've been over this, Garrett. I'm yours no matter what.

[Vie understands the sentiment, but she means what she says. As far as she's concerned, Hawke is already her husband and has been for some time.]

[He already knows this, but that won't stop him from searching.]

Just another reason to find you all the quicker.

[Hawke is looking for any sort of silver lining to any of this.]

[Vie steps back from the window and moves to put a hand on his arm.]

I will find you. I promise.

And I'll find you.

[Hawke takes her hand in his. He wants to offer they stay, but even with his 'brilliant' reason it's not looking like a great idea.]

[She gives his hand a squeeze. Vie's already got her mind made up. She's not leaving the Keep, not yet. In this place there's the chance of her getting Shad's bracelet back. Without it, her world is set back a few hundred years in making a change, assuming another steps up to the task of saving it.

Vie dreads the thought of losing Hawke, or any of his companions, but she understands the reason for their trying to escape, and be damned if she isn't about to do all she can to help them.]

I guess I'll meet you half way then.

[She smiles up at him and lifts his hand to kiss it.]

[If she stays then so does Hawke. Even if they'll be going to two separate worlds in the end, he can't not leave her behind just as he couldn't leave any of his friends behind.]

I'll be waiting for you there...Mrs. Hawke.

[He smiles back at her and puts an arm around her.

Every moment of his time will be dedicated to finding his way back to her. He'll raid the Tower if he has to, or even make his way towards the Tevinter Imperium but one way or another he will find her.]

And just as I was thinking it was getting a little too quiet. Meeting at your room?

I'm more than happy to liven things up for you. That would be the place.
